Glaucoma is often called the “sneak thief of vision” because the peripheral vision is lost without the patient noticing any symptoms. By the time that central vision is affected, glaucoma is already far advanced with almost all peripheral vision permanently depleated. A light point or grid pattern is presented in a predetermined fashion (location sequence) in a lighted bowl and the patient is asked to press a button when they see the stimulus. The responses are analyzed statistically and compared with a database of normal responses. In addition to glaucoma, numerous conditions such as stroke, other vascular diseases, and many neurological conditions can be quickly assessed through Visual Field Testing.
